Carpet Superstore Regina's tips for Protecting Your Floor During a Move

Floor Protection Materials

The surest way to protect your floors during a move is to cover them with some sort of protective material. These three material choices are our favourite:

MasoniteMasonite is a manufactured product made from wood that is broken down into its basic fibres and then rearranged to form hard panels. Masonite boards are an inexpensive option to lay down on your floor during the move.

Ram Board - Ram board is a protective material used during construction and moving. This flexible board comes in rolls, making it more compact and convenient than masonite boards. The ram board can be rolled out and cut to size depending on your needs.

Moving Blankets - Heavy duty blankets are a good option for moving. They can be laid down on floors to protect them, or used to wrap items that you are worried my scratch/dent floors if dropped. Blankets are easier to use and apply, but give less protection from dings than the harder materials such as masonite and ram board.

Good Practices While Moving

Plan Your Move - Before moving large items, take measurements and have a good plan on how you are going to move things. Planning ahead will prevent you putting yourself in a situation where you the floors trying to work oversized items through doorways.

Don't Slide Furniture and Boxes - It may be tempting during a long, tiring move to slide furniture and boxes across the floor - don't! If boxes or furniture are too heavy to lift, get more help moving them.

Hire a Moving Company - If you won't be able to move your belongings without damaging the flooring, hiring a moving company may be a good investment. A good moving company will have all the equipment/experience to make sure things are moved safely and without damaging anything. Furthermore, many moving companies have liability policies if they do damage your home during the move.
